An inquest has been opened into the death of a Bulwell man whose body was found in the River Leen. Lee Wightman was found dead in the river off Main Street in Bulwell on September 25 last year.
The body was identified as 45-year-old Mr Wightman by a finger print officer, said assistant coroner Fiona Gingell, who opened an inquest into his death at Nottingham Council House on Tuesday, April 19. "He was identified by a friction ridge detail examination," she told the court.
"I am content to accept that as evidence of identification." Ms Gingell adjourned the inquest until a date yet to be fixed as inquiries into the circumstances around Mr Wightman's death continue.
"I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr Wightman in relation to their sad loss," she added. Mr Wightman was reportedly found by a member of the public.
Detective Inspector Rachael North, from Nottinghamshire Police, said at the time: “Our thoughts are with Mr Wightman’s family at this very difficult time.”
