Death In Paradise fans complained moments into the BBC's Christmas special as they noticed a huge change.
The much-loved detective drama series - set on the fictional island of Saint Marie - saw Ralf Little return to his role as DI Neville Parker for a festive special of the BBC show ahead of the new series starting in a couple of weeks' time. A number of guest stars including Les Dennis also appeared in the special, which followed the murder of a podcaster.
As fans settled down to watch the show on Boxing Day, it didn't take long before they noticed a huge change in the programme's opening credits and BBC viewers took to Twitter to fume over the 'hated' new feature.
In the Christmas special, Neville headed up a case which had Commissioner Selwyn Patterson's past brought back to him.
Revealing what fans can expect from the Christmas special, bosses teased: "Christmas in Saint Marie takes a spooky turn this year when a case of Selwyn’s comes back to haunt him following the murder of a true crime podcaster on the hunt for a missing child.
"Marlon is forced to spend the night in a haunted house and Darlene takes a hard look at her life choices. And after a chance encounter in an airport car park, could love finally be in the air for Neville Parker?"
Taking to Twitter moments into the new hour and a half long episode, fans took issue with the music for the opening credits.
"I loved the longer episode but please put the original title music back on. The one with the lyrics just doesn't give the start of the programme that uplift that people love. The original music is so upbeat and change isn't always a good thing," one wrote.
Another added: "Enjoying this episode of #DeathInParadise, although there are two things wrong with it. 1) The theme music - 2) Les Dennis's hair," as a third shared: "I do not like the theme music with words….. #deathinparadise."
"Not sure about music tweak and opening with trendy surfers. And that background music when Les came on #DeathInParadise," a fourth added, with a fifth sharing: "Why did they murder the theme music in #DeathinParadise."
A sixth viewer wrote: "Hmm how dare they change the music!! I can’t cope with shocks like that. #deathinparadise."
Death in Paradise will return for its full series on January 6, with the mystery death of a celebrity astronomer taking the team around a new set of challenges as they try to identify the murderer and navigate Caribbean life.
