'Dear FA, please' - Jurgen Klopp sends Liverpool demand after cup final win over Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has sent a message to the FA following Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup after taking issue with the number of medals the Reds received following their win at Wembley.

The German used 31 players in the competition this season, with the likes of Takumi Minamino shining in the earlier rounds while Kaide Gordon, Conor Bradley, Max Woltman, James Norris and Melkamu Frauendorf were just some of the younger players given senior game-time.

However, the Japan international was one of four senior players who didn’t make the bench at Wembley, along with Harvey Elliott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the injured Fabinho as Liverpool beat Thomas Tuchel’s side on penalties.

And when praising the depth of his squad, Klopp took issue with the number of medals the club had received following their latest trophy win, revealing it had not been enough to reward all his players who had played their part in the Reds’ successful FA Cup run.

“We won two competitions and there is only one reason for it, only one, we have this group of players,” he told reporters. “That’s the reason, that they all stayed on track. They all stayed in line and were outstanding in training.

“When they were involved in the squad or not, whether they came on or not. All these kind of things. The atmosphere the group created is absolutely exceptional and that’s why we won these two competitions.

“We can’t go to the final and always play the same eleven players. That is really not possible. Everybody has his part.

“Now you can hear publicly, to the FA, more medals. I cannot believe that the amount of medals is restricted. Why would you do that?

“We realise we want to give medals to all the players, but then the coaches can’t have them. It’s a bit tough.

“Dear FA, please send some more medals. The squad is getting bigger but the numbers stay the same so do that.”
