Deansgate cocktail bar now serving up eggs and avocado boozy brunches

Twelve months after opening its doors, one of Manchester’s top cocktail spots has launched a brunch menu that’s available six out of seven days a week. Located on the corner of Deansgate and Bootle Street, Rendition may just be the city’s hottest new spot to get your avocado and eggs.

The cocktail bar and kitchen opened in June last year, open Thursday through to Saturday for evening meals and their innovative cocktail menu, featuring original creations like ‘Red Hot Fun’ and ‘Palm Springs’.

The decadent restaurant - which occupies the former Tapeo and Wine - was bustling on my arrival.

With gold glitter disco balls, an art deco style marble-topped bar and red velvet curtains adorning the windows, this upmarket venue is the perfect setting for moving seamlessly from day to night. And as Rendition is the little sister to nightclub Chinewhite, the team knows just how to create that party mood no matter what time of day.

With summer well and truly in swing, there’s often nothing better than brunching with the girls or treating the other half to elevenses.

The new brunch menu is small but carefully crafted, often using local produce for their ingredient-led dishes. Sometimes looking at a brunch menu can feel overwhelming with choices and add-ons, but Rendition has found a nice balance.

Served from 10am to 2pm Monday through Saturday, brunchers can choose from the classic bacon sandwich or eggs Florentine for £8, opting for homemade guacamole on toast with red onion and coriander, or the go-to brunch menu item, eggs Benedict for £9.

I must admit to being tempted by the 8oz steak and eggs, but ‘chicken or the egg’ caught my attention, so I went for that at a typically-brunch-priced £13.

It was far too warm for a cup of tea, and so eyed up the ‘cruel intentions’ menu for a boozier brunch. Diners can go for an Espresso Martini - a coffee cocktail that’s grown exponentially in recent years - or a sophisticated peach bellini, however the breakfast martini, made with gin, marmalade, orange liqueur, and lemon juice, certainly had my heart.

The chicken and eggs came served on the bread of the day, which was a beautifully soft, toasted brioche style bun - though loaded toasts appeared to be served with sourdough instead. I added bacon for an extra £1.50, which made my later breakfast (or early lunch, whichever way you want to think about it) resemble more of a burger than anything else. Served with trendy gold cutlery, I couldn’t help but cut into the perfectly poached egg and watch the yolk ooze out onto the plate.

There was a generous amount of chicken strips on my bun - three long, well seasoned strips which poked from the edges in every direction stacked with two rashers of crisp bacon. Because of the now-burst egg, it was never going to be a finger food affair, but had to be deconstructed on the plate so as not to make a mess.

But there was also a surprise item on my plate that absolutely stole the show: a little pot of tiny potato bites that were somewhere between a croquette and a miniature hash brown. Either way, the fluffy carb nibbles were light, salty and the ideal way to mop up the runny egg from the plate. Having not been mentioned on the menu, they were a delightful unexpected addition.

Washed down with the fruity and tart breakfast martini, the whole experience felt like a slice of indulgence - a real act of self-care.

As well as the brand new brunch offering, the new food menu also includes a range small plates and renditions of comfort food, including whipped goat’s cheese with flatbread, coriander oil, toasted sunflower seeds and dates and a 28 day aged rump, served in strips with black peppercorn caramel.

There is also a selection of fried chicken dishes, with chicken strips fried in Rendition’s house batter, served with toppings including sriracha and honey or mango and soy.

And if fried chicken isn’t what you are looking for, there are a few vegan and gluten free options available, too.

Highlights on the new cocktail menu include Rendition’s Red Hot Fun which is made up of Ciroc Red Berry, cranberry and chilli, and The Dance which consists of Stolichnaya Vanilla, strawberry and bubblegum.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to catch up with friends, enjoy a cute Saturday morning date, or just to treat yourself and have some me-time, it’s well worth doing it over Rendition’s new brunch menu in the heart of Manchester’s food and drink scene.

Rendition is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm for brunch, and Thursday to Saturday for evening meals and cocktails.
