Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins started the season missing games and will end the season missing games as well. After missing the Cardinals’ 20-19 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17 with a knee injury, he will also sit out the Cardinals’ finale this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, said coach Kliff Kingsbury.
“He won’t be up this week. He will be down,” he said Wednesday.
Hopkins had some soreness in the knee he had surgically repaired last year.
Kingsbury said that it has been bothering him.
“It’s definitely something that’s been nagging him, his knee injury, and so we’re just going to be cautious this last one,” he said.
Hopkins finishes the season having appeared in nine games, missing the first six when he was suspended and the last two with the injury. He caught 64 passes for 717 yards and three touchdowns.
It is possible he has played his final game with the Cardinals. His contract carries a cap hit of more than $30 million in 2023 and he will be 31 years old, having played in only 19 of 34 games in 2021-2022.
In an offseason of potential changes, perhaps we have seen the last of Hopkins in a Cardinals uniform.
