Super confident boxer Dean Sutherland is aiming for another emphatic knockout victory on Friday to edge him closer to a shot at the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles.
The hard-hitting Aberdeen southpaw extended his record to 12-0 and claimed the WBC International title with an impressive 8th round stoppage against durable Italian Michele Esposito at the Ballroom last November, topping the bill live on Fightzone.
He said: “It was a fantastic night last in front of a packed-out crowd. It was a tough fight for me both physically and mentally as I was hitting the guy with so many big shots and he kept coming back.
“It was great for me to be able to show my skills by continuing to chip away, and eventually I broke him down and forced the stoppage.”
Sutherland will once again headline the show on Friday live on Fightzone against an opponent who is yet to be confirmed – but he's hoping to get the job done much quicker on this occasion.
He added: “This time I am hoping to produce an emphatic knockout in two or three rounds. I’ve been training so hard with some really good sparring partners since New Year for this fight, so I am not looking to go out there and box my way to a points victory.
"I am aiming to blast out whoever is in front of me and get back to the changing rooms as soon as possible.”
The 23-year-old, who has recently been able to give up his job as an electrician to chase his dreams of world glory, was delighted to get his hands on the WBC International belt in November and is desperate to add even more belts to his collection as he forces his way into the reckoning for domestic honours.
“It was great to get that green strap around my waist, but at the end of my career I believe that it will be one of the minor belts that I have been able to win.
I am craving the opportunity to keep testing myself, and with another big victory on Friday, I will hopefully be one step closer for a shot at the British and Commonwealth titles.”
The welterweight who is managed by Kynoch Promotions, is preparing for a busy 2022, with three more dates booked in the calendar to help him continue to climb the rankings.
“If I can get the job done early on Friday I am hoping to be out again on June 25. That date is only 10 weeks away which is quite a quick turn-around, so I’ll give myself a few days rest and get back in the gym.
“I am then hoping to have a keep busy fight pencilled in for September, before another huge show back up here at the Ballroom in November.
“If I can keep making statements in these fights, I am confident it will get to the point where I will be a mandatory challenger to these domestic opponents who have been avoiding getting in the ring with me.”
Fellow Scottish fighters Ryan Gall, Ben Bartlett, Corey McCulloch and the undefeated Calvin McCord will all feature on the card, whilst Irish prospect Edward Donovan will also be in action.
