Dean Smith sends 'right time' jibe at Manchester United before Norwich fixture

Norwich City manager Dean Smith is hopeful that his side are playing Manchester United at the 'right time' when the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United suffered a disappointing defeat to Everton last weekend with Anthony Gordon's deflected strike the difference between the two teams on Merseyside. Norwich, meanwhile, have had a disappointing campaign of their own and sit at the foot of the Premier League.

However a 2-0 victory over Burnley — which ultimately cost Sean Dyche his job at the Clarets — is likely to have given Norwich some much needed confidence heading into the Easter weekend. Speaking ahead of the clash, manager Smith noted how tough it could be for his side but was hopeful of a result.

He explained: "I'm a realist and I also know how difficult it is going to be, there are no gimmes in the Premier League as we all know. We are travelling to Old Trafford next, the Theatre of Dreams, and what a tough place to go.

"But, we have got that renewed confidence from what four points in the last two games brings you and they lost their last game against Everton, I have been told that there might be some kind of protest at the ground. So, sometimes in this league you need to be playing teams at the right team and hopefully for us this is the right time."

United currently sit six points off fourth place Tottenham Hotspur with seven games remaining. Norwich still sit seven points from safety having played a game more than 17th placed Everton.
