Dean Saunders admits he would be 'gutted' if Leeds United are relegated

Radio pundit Dean Saunders has admitted he would be ‘gutted’ if Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League. The Whites currently sit in the bottom three with just two matches of their season remaining, though both Burnley and Everton both also have a game in hand.

It has been a very frustrating campaign for Leeds, with a string of injuries to key players having played a huge part on their struggles. Marcelo Bielsa was also sacked in February following a poor run of form, which brought an end to his highly successful reign at the club.

And all the hard work that was put into Leeds making their long awaited return to the Premier League now rests on two fixtures with Brighton and Brentford. Speaking to talkSPORT Saunders highlighted what a loss the Whites would be to the Premier League as he detailed how much he enjoys watching them play.

He said: “All them games I had to watch last night [Wednesday], I chose to watch Leeds. I love watching Leeds. When you look at Chelsea, Liverpool on the counter-attack and then you watch a League Two match with a team on a counter-attack, they get it wrong.

“The top teams, when they break on you, the pass is right, the weight is right, they pick the right choice. They cut you to ribbons if you give the ball away, or if you go man for man. What’s happened last season is they’ve caught teams napping with the way they’re playing.

“This season the managers have gone: ‘if they start going man for man, we’re going to do this’ and they let in goals everywhere. When they go forward they get six or seven in the box every time. I’ll be gutted if Leeds go down.”
