Dean Henderson returns to Man Utd early amid Nottingham Forest transfer talks

Dean Henderson has returned to training at parent club Manchester United on Thursday amid speculation over his future at the Red Devils.

Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign the shot-stopper on a permanent deal this summer as they look to secure the services of a goalkeeper who impressed during his loan spell at the City Ground last season. Henderson made important saves for the Reds earlier in the campaign before picking up a season-ending injury in January.

It is his performances in the first few months of the 2022/23 season which have led the club to try and sign him this summer, as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping department. Wayne Hennessey is currently the Reds' only senior keeper, although they do still have Ethan Horvath on their books but his future remains unclear.

And our sister site the MEN have confirmed that Henderson is one of two players to return to the club's Carrington training ground early ahead of the start of pre-season for the Red Devils next week.

The report states that Henderson's early return to United is due to him continuing his rehabilitation from the knee injury he sustained whilst playing for Forest in January. The 26-year-old had surgery just last month but should be fully fit for the start of the new season in August.

Henderson returns to his parent club for the first time since May 2022. He was reportedly reluctant to train under new manager Erik ten Hag last June while negotiations to join the Reds on loan were at an advanced stage.

Previous reports have raised question marks over Henderson's relationship with United and manager Erik ten Hag after one report claimed that he has had "an uneasy couple of years with his parent club."

It is also claimed "there is next to no indication he is under consideration for a promotion to No.1," which would surely signal an end to his time at Old Trafford. However, Henderson's United future may depend on the future of David de Gea whose contract at the club expires this month.
