Dean Henderson decision made as Nottingham Forest 'expected' to seal transfer deal

Nottingham Forest loanee Dean Henderson will not be allowed to play against his parent club Manchester United in the League Cup semi-final.

Forest advanced through to the final four of the competition after beating Wolves 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday. The game initially ended 1-1 at the City Ground, with former Wolves man Willy Boly scoring the opening goal before Raul Jimenez levelled matters in the second-half.

Henderson was once again praised for his heroics after denying Wolves captain Ruben Neves and Joe Hodge in the penalty shootout, as he guided the Reds into the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time since 1992. However, many supporters have wondered whether he would be allowed to feature against Erik ten Hag's side, after arriving at Forest on a season-long loan from Old Trafford.

Transfer hope

Nottingham Forest are “hopeful” of soon being able to strengthen their injury-depleted squad as the January window approaches its midway point.

So far, Gustavo Scarpa is the Reds’ only new addition this month. The Brazilian got his first taste of playing in front of the City Ground crowd on Wednesday night when he started the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forest triumphed on spot-kicks against their Premier League rivals, but they were left with a fitness doubt over another one of their players at the end of it. Willy Boly was forced off after injuring his ankle, adding to a list which already includes Taiwo Awoniyi, Jesse Lingard, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Cheikhou Kouyate and Giulian Biancone in the treatment room.

Head coach Steve Cooper wants to bolster his resources at centre-back, in midfield and up front before the transfer deadline. And the number of injuries to key players is only increasing the sense of urgency when it comes to getting new signings in.

Striker wanted

MLS side Minnesota United have reportedly made an 'official proposal' to sign Nottingham Forest striker Hwang Ui-jo.

The 30-year-old made the switch from Bordeaux to Forest in the summer, before being immediately loaned out to Olympiacos for the remainder of the season. Despite not seeing regular game time in Greece, Hwang is subject of heavy interest from America.

A host of MLS sides including Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Atlanta United, Vancouver are also interested, as well as Korean and Japanese sides FC Seoul and Vissel Kobe.

Minnesota tried to sign Hwang in the summer before the Reds sealed the £4 million transfer. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Minnesota are keen to strike a deal this time around, and have sent an 'official proposal' to Forest.

Deal 'expected'

Nottingham Forest are reportedly 'expected' to strike an agreement with Palmeiras for midfielder Danilo.

Forest are keen to add to their squad this winter, and are working on striking a deal for the 21-year-old but face competition from French side AS Monaco. The Reds have, however, tried to get ahead of the race by reportedly tabling an offer of close to €20million (£18m) for the midfielder.

Palmeiras said to want to receive between €20m-€25m (£17m-£22m) for their player. Danilo's former Palmeiras team mate Gustavo Scarpa became Steve Cooper's first winter signing, but the Reds are set to not stop there.

According to the Daily Mail, Forest are 'expected to confirm an agreement' with the Verdao. Danilo, who appears keen on a move to Europe, said last year: "I see myself as mature enough to be able to play in any competition in the world."
