Dean Henderson breaks silence with Nottingham Forest injury update

Nottingham Forest’s on loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson has provided the latest update on his injury, confirming that he will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery.

The Manchester United man signed a season long loan deal with the Reds back in the summer as they prepared for their return to the Premier League. Henderson played all but one of Forest’s league games - he was ineligible to play against his parent side - until picking up the injury in January.

The goalkeeper was injured in the closing stages of the 2-0 home win against Leicester City back in January. Although he was able to finish the game, it was later confirmed that he had suffered a grade two tear in his thigh , initially ruling him out for four to six weeks. The absence of Henderson led to Forest moving for Keylor Navas in the January window, the goalkeeper joining on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The injury has kept Henderson out for longer than initially expected, and the player has now confirmed on his Instagram account that he has undergone surgery. “Had surgery today on an ongoing issue,” he posted on Tuesday night alongside a picture of him in a hospital gown and on crutches.

“I’m disappointed to miss the rest of the season but surgery went well and I will be back for pre season. I will be supporting the boys for the remainder of the season!! Let’s go YOU REDS.”

Henderson is likely to start pre-season back with parent club Manchester United, although there has been speculation over his future in recent months. Forest have been credited with an interest in making his loan move permanent in the summer, with the transfer one of the ‘priorities’ .

They could, however, face competition from other Premier League sides. The 26-year-old is said to be on Tottenham’s shortlist in their search for a successor to Hugo Lloris.
