Dean Henderson blames Man Utd treatment for "difficult" Nottingham Forest form

Dean Henderson admits playing just three games in goal for Manchester United last term made it “difficult” for him this season.

But the on-loan Nottingham Forest shot-stopper believes he has found his form with two penalty saves already this campaign. Henderson returned to Forest’s side in their 1-1 draw against Chelsea after being ineligible to play against his parent club United.

Henderson, 25, one of 23 summer signings at promoted Forest, admitted: “The first few games were difficult when I didn’t play last season but it’s been great to play as often as I have so far. I’m relatively happy with my form overall.

“It is hard to be perfect every single game but I’ve had some big moments. I’d like to think I have contributed to the team picking up a few points.

“I just want to get better as the season goes on. I’m really enjoying it here. Coming in during the summer with a big turnaround of players was interesting but we’re getting our feet under the table.”

Henderson previously described United’s treatment of him as “criminal” in an outspoken attack after failing to usurp David de Gea at Old Trafford last term.

He remains angry after being told he would be No.1 at United last season before contracting Covid-19 at the start of last campaign when De Gea got the nod instead.

He will have two years left on his contract at United in the summer when he wants to resolve his future at the club. Henderson is only interested in playing regularly and seems very happy at the City Ground playing infront of their fans.

He added: “I think the supporters are the best in the country so it’s an honour to play infront of them every single week and they’re going to be a massive help for us going forward.”

Now the keeper aims to help Forest out of the drop zone ahead of Wednesday's crunch trip to bottom club Southampton.

He said: “We have a lot of quality throughout the dressing room and we’ve got to believe we can perform to a high level because we have got a good blend of ability, experience and some younger players that are beginning to grow and we have that togetherness.”
