Deal Or No Deal is set to be revived by ITV - with Stephen Mulhern as host. The hit gameshow will return to our TV screens after seven years, following the original UK series presented by Noel Edmonds on Channel 4 from 2005 to 2016.
Catchphrase host Stephen says he is a "huge fan" of Deal Or No Deal and "beyond excited" to be presenting the ITV version. The show involves contestants choosing from one of the 22 boxes - each containing a cash amount between 1p and £250,000 - and trying to win as much money as possible.
The reboot, which has begun casting, will see "a brand-new setting with brand-new prize boxes and a new batch of contestants", reported The Mirror. Stephen said: "I've always been such a huge fan of the show, so much so, I’ve been practising at home with small cereal boxes!
“It looks so simple but it’s an incredibly compelling game for both those playing and the viewers watching at home." Stephen, who is also a presenter on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and the spin-off game show In For a Penny, added: "It's one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour."
The UK version of Deal Or No Deal based on the original Netherlands format of the gameshow. Contestants try to win as much money as they can - either by gambling on having a high amount in their chosen box, or by drawing a high offer for the 'banker' for their box.
ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning Katie Rawcliffe said: "Deal or No Deal is such an iconic format and we are delighted that it will be joining the ITV family. Stephen’s infectious warmth and wit mixed with his natural rapport with members of the public is the perfect combination for this much-loved TV series."
Stephen shared a short video of him holding a red Deal or No Deal box as he announced his new role on Twitter this morning (March 27). In it, he said: "I used to watch Deal or No Deal when I was growing up and I am now honoured to be the new host", adding: "It will hit your TV screens later on this year."
Fellow gameshow host Richard Osman - known for presenting Pointless and House of Games - replied: "This show is made for you Stephen. I hope I'm allowed in the Banker's room again. Have fun!"
