Deaf Filmmakers Shine At Signlight International Film Festival In Hollywood

Berlin Film Festival adds new films

The inaugural SignLight International Film Festival is set to take place in Hollywood from April 16-20, showcasing the works of Deaf filmmakers and creatives from across the globe. The event, spearheaded by actor-director-producer CJ Jones, has garnered support from industry luminaries such as Troy Kotsur, Marlee Matlin, Shoshanna Stern, Craig Mazin, Rosie O'Donnell, and Andreas Deja.

Attendees can look forward to screenings of films like 'Silent Rhythm,' 'Not Another Deaf Story,' 'Speak in a Whisper,' and 'Being Michelle.' Jones emphasized the importance of authentic representation, highlighting the need for genuine collaboration between Deaf and hearing individuals both on and off the screen.

The festival will also feature a performance by American Sign Language (ASL) hip hop artist Matt Maxey, known as Deafinitely Dope. The event will kick off with a VIP reception and screening at the Pacific Design Center, offering open-caption screenings, pitch sessions, panels, exhibition booths, live performances by Deaf artists, and family-friendly activities.

SignLight Inc., the non-profit entertainment career-training arm of SignWorld Studios, will oversee the five-day festival. For more details, interested individuals can visit the festival's official website.

In a separate development, the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network and filmmaker Ian Shive have announced an upcoming IMAX documentary titled 'Wild Rescue: A Second Chance at a Wild Life.' The film will showcase SBWCN's groundbreaking work in wildlife rehabilitation, spotlighting their new wildlife hospital that aids over 3,500 animals annually.

'Wild Rescue' will offer viewers a glimpse into the Santa Barbara region, including Channel Islands National Park and its diverse marine ecosystem. The documentary will underscore the dedication of veterinarians, volunteers, and community members who strive to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured wildlife back into their natural habitats.

Set for release in spring 2025, 'Wild Rescue' will be directed and executive produced by Ian Shive. The film aims to inspire audiences to engage in local conservation efforts, emphasizing the impact of community-driven initiatives on a global scale.
