A deadly terror attack targeted the Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAS) facilities in Ankara, as confirmed by government officials. The Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that the attack resulted in casualties, including fatalities and injuries.
A verified social media video captured the moment of the explosion at the TUSAS headquarters, showing a person with a firearm fleeing the scene in a parking lot. Ankara mayor Mansur Yavas expressed his sorrow over the attack on TUSAS, a significant defense company in Turkey.
Established in 1973, TUSAS was incorporated into Turkey's Ministry of Industry and Technology with the aim of reducing the country's reliance on foreign defense industry. Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed that an investigation into the attack has been initiated.
The US State Department is closely monitoring the situation following the attack. The company's general manager, Mehmet Demiroglu, reportedly cut short his participation in a defense fair to return to Ankara in response to the incident.
The attack took place while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was attending the annual BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan.
