Deadline day Nottingham Forest transfer 'collapsed' after decision made

A deadline day move for Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo collapsed because of the late submission of paperwork, it has been claimed.

The centre-back was a target for Portuguese side Vitoria during the transfer window, with a loan deal believed to have initially been in the offing.

However, OJogo claim a permanent switch, with season-and-a-half-long terms, was on the table on Monday and Figueiredo had reached an agreement to terminate his Reds contract.

But the report adds Forest were “late in sending the documentation” and the move fell through.

Figueiredo has a few months left to run on his deal at the City Ground, which will expire at the end of the season.

He has dropped down the pecking order for the Reds, with his last appearance coming in the 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Boxing Day, when he was substituted midway through.

Head coach Steve Cooper strengthened his defensive options just before the window closed, bringing in Jonathan Panzo from French side Dijon. The pair have worked together before, at England youth level.

Fellow centre-back Rodrigo Ely headed in the opposite direction on deadline day as his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Joe Worrall is currently sidelined with broken ribs, while January signing Steve Cook suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s defeat at Cardiff City.

Forest also have Scott McKenna and Loic Mbe Soh as central defensive options on the books.

Figueiredo joined the Reds in 2018, initially on loan before his move was made permanent that summer. He has featured 19 times so far this season.
