Dazzling scenes as British Musical Fireworks Championship returns to Merseyside

The British Musical Fireworks are taking place on Merseyside this weekend.

The three day event kicked off on Friday night with a dazzling display of fireworks as captured in these pictures by ECHO photographer Colin Lane. The annual event, which has been running for more than 20 years, is being held in Southport’s Victoria Park and continues tonight, before finishing tomorrow (Sunday, September 25).

Across the weekend, explosives will be used as seven teams from pyrotechnic companies compete in front of judges, showing off eye-catching fireworks displays that are cleverly choreographed to music. Each will be hoping to be crowned the ultimate 2022 winner.

Tickets for Sunday night are still available and can be purchased here. Tickets are £8 for standing, £20 for seated and under fives go free. Gates open at 6pm, with each display lasting around 15 minutes.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said: “The British Musical Fireworks Championship is the perfect way to round off an incredible summer of events and investment in Southport and Sefton.

“Having been running for well over 20 years, the Championship is always a hugely popular three-day event and brings in crowds from across the North of England for a unique and stunning experience.

“Local businesses really benefit from the added footfall to the town over the weekend and I am looking forward to seeing the quality of displays on show this time round. If you are thinking of attending please try and get tickets in advance to avoid missing out as tickets sell out!”
