The Daytona 500, NASCAR's prestigious season-opener, faced multiple weather delays totaling over 3 1/2 hours before finally resuming close to 6:30 p.m. EST. President Donald Trump made a notable appearance at the event, leading drivers on ceremonial laps in his heavily armored presidential limousine known as 'The Beast.'

Despite the rain delays, the race was set to conclude under the lights on Sunday evening. Trump, after addressing the drivers with words of admiration and encouragement, left the track as the Daytona 500 entered another rain delay.

The start time for the race was moved up to 2 p.m. Eastern due to anticipated inclement weather, which indeed hit the area, causing the initial delay. Actor Anthony Mackie, known for his role as 'Captain America,' was present at the event and gave the command for drivers to start their engines, adding to the excitement of the day.

With the race facing its sixth delay in the last 14 years, NASCAR officials and fans braced for a potentially long day as heavy rain and strong winds were forecasted. The Daytona 500 has been postponed to Monday on three occasions in the past, with significant delays also occurring in 2014 and 2021.

During the breaks in racing, drivers sought shelter in their motorhomes, while some took the opportunity to engage in live television interviews. Race enthusiasts made the best of the situation by seeking cover under bar areas or purchasing ponchos from merchandise stands to stay dry.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the Daytona 500 continued to captivate fans and participants alike, showcasing the resilience and dedication of the NASCAR community in the face of adverse conditions.
