NASCAR’s biggest race, the Daytona 500, has been postponed to Monday due to heavy rain at Daytona International Speedway.
The 66th Daytona 500 now is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET on Monday. The NASCAR Xfinity Series was delayed from Saturday to 11 a.m. ET on Monday due to the weather as well. This makes it the first Monday doubleheader at Daytona International Speedway, the track announced.
Despite the storied race being moved back a day, the broadcast scheduling remains the same. Fox will showcase the Daytona 500 for the 18th year in a row.
The Daytona 500 has been postponed to Monday three times because of rain: in 2012, ’20 and ’24. Two other races were moved to Sunday night because of weather (2014, ’21). Before that, none of the first 53 Daytona 500s were postponed due to rain.
The Daytona Beach forecast shows light rain on Monday morning, with the skies expected to clear up in the early afternoon, per The Weather Channel.
