Days of Our Lives star Cody Longo's cause of death revealed after being found dead at home

American soap actor Cody Longo passed away as a result of years of chronic alcohol abuse, according to reports.

The US star, most famously known for featuring in the iconic show Days Of Our Lives and later went on to star in a slew of other acting and music endeavours, was only 34 years old when he tragically passed away in February.

And now an autopsy report has revealed that he died from "chronic ethanol abuse", with the manner of his passing reportedly being "natural".

It is also said that the actor's body was found decomposing when he was found dead.

The scene of his passing was full of alcohol bottles, the autopsy report obtained by TMZ said.

Shortly after his passing, it was revealed how police found Cody dead in his bed at his home in Austin, Texas, when his wife Stephanie could not contact him.

It was reported at the time: "Longo's wife, Stephanie, was at work at a local dance studio and got an uneasy feeling when she couldn't reach him, so she asked police to go and check on him.

"Cops responded to the home, and when Longo didn't answer, they kicked the door down, finding him dead in bed."

The outlet also reported that Cody struggled with alcohol addictions for years and notes that an official cause of death has not yet been released.

His devastated wife paid tribute to the actor - who was the father of a 7-year-old daughter, a 5-year-old son and a 1-year-old son.

Stephanie said in a statement: "He was an amazing father and the best husband. Our whole world is shattered."

Cody featured in eight episodes of Days Of Our Lives in 2011 and also had a starring role in the 2009 cheerleader sequel film Bring It On: Fight To The Finish.

He also had prominent roles in the TV series Nashville, playing a character named Quentin in two episodes, and played Eddie Duran across 78 episodes of the show Hollywood Heights.

Cody was born on March 4, 1988 in Littleton, Colorado, and his career began on stage before he moved into TV and film.

The late actor studied psychology and film at UCLA and also made inroads into the world of music.

He cracked the Billboard Top 100 charts in 2014 with a song titled She Said, which reached number 3 in the charts in the USA - with his debut album also charting at the same time.
