Netflix’s new comedy-horror film Day Shift has rocketed to the top of the streaming charts after landing on the platform over the weekend.
Viewers were pulled into the world of Bud Jablonski (played by Jamie Foxx ), a hard-working father who poses as a pool cleaner in San Fernando Valley while he secretly makes a living hunting vampires.
It stars an impressive cast, including Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg, and Karla Souza - so it’s no surprise Day Shift has passed the likes of Uncharted and Purple Hearts to claim pole position on the Netflix charts.
And while the vampire movie has clicked well with subscribers, it has been savaged by top critics on Rotten Tomatoes, bagging a score of just 58 percent.
The movie has also been awarded a ‘Certified Rotten’ overall rating.
The ‘Top Critics’ section on Rotten Tomatoes explains why the movie has not been well received from viewers.
Peter Travers of ABC News wrote: “A slumming Jamie Foxx is cool to the max as a vampire hunter gunning down vampires in sunny LA. But you leave this goofy but mostly godawful action-comedy feeling pummeled, beaten down by an avalanche of sound and fury signifying the usual nothing.”
Todd McCarthy from Deadline Hollywood Daily added: “The script never remotely rises to the occasion, resulting in a hodge-podgy mess that, at nearly two hours, is also a half-hour too long for its own, or anyone else’s, good.”

While, Brian Lowry from CNN said: “It's the kind of star-driven vehicle that yields obvious benefits to Netflix even if, qualitatively speaking, it doesn't deserve to see the light of day.”
Despite the negative feedback from movie critics, some Rotten Tomatoes users praised Jamie Foxx’s role in the thrilling action film.
One penned: “Day Shift delivers everything it promises, which isn’t all that much. But Foxx goes above and beyond the call of duty, seemingly without even trying.”
While another wrote: “[Jamie Foxx] brings his A-game... He makes it fresh and invigorating.”
“Day Shift effectively positions Jamie Foxx as a vampire-hunting action hero and provides the bloody popcorn thrills,” added another.
While the reviews are mixed, you can check out Day Shift on Netflix to decide for yourself if it deserves the ‘Certified Rotten’ rating.
