James Van Der Beek has revealed that his sixth child came as a surprise as he and wife Kimberly Brook weren't trying for any more kids.
The Dawson's Creek star, 45, welcomed child number six with his second wife in November, with the pair already proud parents of Olivia, 11, Joshua, 10, Annabel, 8, Emilia, 6, and three-year-old Gwendolyn.
And despite not planning to have a sixth child, the actor has thanked god for blessing the couple with baby Remi.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday night, James shared a selection of snaps of him lovingly holding the youngster.
In the first image, James as seen planting a kiss on the tot's head as they look out at the sunrise.
He captioned the post: "Thank god for the surprises. For the detours. For those times the universe heard my plans and said: 'Yeah, that’s cute… try THIS'.
"We weren’t trying for more kids. We were done. But fortunately, this chunky little angel knew better.
"And when I hold him, I’m reminded of the benevolent forces out there likely laughing at my agenda and waiting for me to toss my “clarity” for an upgraded reality."
He ended the sweet post: "Thank god for surprises… and thank god we SUCK at not getting pregnant."
James had previously revealed he was "terrified" at the discovery that Kimberly was pregnant after the 40-year-old had previously suffered a number of miscarriages due to a weakened cervix.
The couple married 11 years ago after meeting in Israel in 2009.
They announced the birth of Remi in a sweet Instagram post showing the tot lying on his dad.
James wrote at the time: "Humbled and overjoyed to announce the safe, happy arrival of Jeremiah Van Der Beek (We've been calling him Remi, btw - not "dinosaur")," he began.
He continued to open up about the couple's last two pregnancies which ended in heartbreak due to late-term pregnancy loss.
He added: "Each child brings their own energy, their own manifestation of consciousness, their own lessons.
"The ones we lost each gifted us with different pieces of the puzzle… leaving us that much more grateful for the ongoing master class we get to enjoy with this sweet, wise little one.
"(ps - To everyone in our community - both local and extended - who knew about our journey and honored our desire for privacy… thank you. May that respect and karma come back to y'all 1000-fold) Life is beautiful."
