In their first 12 games of the 2022 season, the Buffalo Bills had punted just 27 times, the NFL’s lowest total. The Bills made up for that in the wrong direction this Sunday against the New York Jets by punting on their first five possessions. The Jets were similarly hospitable, punting on each of their five possessions in the first half.
So, with 26 seconds left in that first half, we were very close to the first first half without a single point since October 20, 2019, when the San Francisco 49ers and Washington accomplished that unfortunate feat.
And then, Josh Allen threw this ball to tight end Dawson Knox, which took us out of that particular scoreless nightmare.

Knox went full helicopter to get into the end zone, and it may just take that kind of effort for either team to score in this game.
The Jets almost got out of this scenario. With 1:17 left in the first half, the Bills had fourth-and-1 from their own 39-yard line. Fortunately for the Bills, Allen was able to get linebacker C.J. Mosley to perform a spectacular example of encroachment.
