Dawnfresh subsidiary sold to Mowi

Dawnfresh Seafoods’ fish farming subsidiary has been sold to Mowi Scotland, saving 67 jobs.

Nearly a year ago, the group - which operated seven fish farms across Northern Ireland and Scotland, as well as processing facilities in Uddingston and Arbroath - filed for administration.

Some 200 people lost their jobs as the processing plant in Uddingston closed, although this was then sold to Peterhead-based Thistle Seafoods in June, with 40 employees transferred over. Arbroath-based subsidiary RR Spink was sold to Lossie Seafoods

Now administrators at FRP Advisory have confirmed the sale of Dawnfresh Farming to Norwegian group Mowi for an undisclosed sum.

The deal includes seven fish farms and five hatcheries based at Loch Awe, Loch Earn, Glen Devon and Kinnaird, with one in Northern Ireland.

The transaction ends the association with the company of Raleighand Alastair Salvesen, as well as Darren Allan and John Christopher Young.

Mowi Scotland's chief operating officer Ben Hadfield was appointed a director of Dawnfresh Farming on 7 February.

Dawnfresh Farming’s last accounts, for the year to 27 March 2022, recorded a net profit of £2.24m.
