Davy Fitzgerald has completed his return to Waterford, 14 years after kickstarting his management career with the Deise.
The former Clare and Wexford boss was ratified at a county board meeting in Dungarvan and will set about reviving the team’s fortunes in 2023 after they fell flat in his year’s Championship after winning the League title under Liam Cahill, who has since departed to his native Tipperary.
Fitzgerald had a successful run as Waterford manager from 2008-11, reaching the All-Ireland semi-final in each season, making their first final appearance in 45 years in 2008 as well as winning the Munster title in 2010, the last time that they claimed provincial honours.

The 51-year-old has been appointed on an initial two-year term, with the option of a third season.
It is unknown as yet what the make-up of his management team will be but long-time right-hand man Seoirse Bulfin will not be involved having been appointed as manager of the Meath hurlers earlier this week.
After completing 14 consecutive seasons in senior inter-county hurling management with Wexford last year, Fitzgerald coached the Cork camogie team this year but stepped down in the aftermath of last Sunday’s All-Ireland final loss to Kilkenny.
