Davina McCall's dating show Language of Love 'axed after just one series'

The Davina McCall fronted dating show Language Of Love has reportedly been axed from Channel 4.

The TV presenter fronted the show with an unusual concept, which saw British and Spanish singles in a quest for love as they tried to prove romance could conquer the language barrier.

After Davina first shot to fame as the presenter of Channel 4’s dating show Streetmate in the late Nineties, the Language of Love show seemed a full circle moment.

However, the show is now said to have been shelved after just one series following the finale in February this year, which saw just 200,000 viewers tune in.

A source told The Sun : “Channel 4 thought that Language Of Love had all the ingredients to be a hit, especially with Davina at the helm.

“But unfortunately the premise didn’t seem to strike a chord with the public. It was unable to generate a lot of engagement on social media and it then lost steam as the series went on.

“So there are no current plans for another series. But it was an entertaining experiment and the central format is quite repeatable, so Language Of Love might end up living to see another day.”

Davina fans can still look forward to her returning to TV screens as part of the judging panel on the next series of ITV ’s The Masked Masked Singer as well as The Masked Dancer and her show Long Lost Family.

This comes after ITV bosses have announced they are bringing Big Brother back to fans next year, reviving the beloved reality show, which has not been on TV since 2018, when it was axed by Channel 5.

"Big Brother house, this is Davina," is a catchphrase forever associated with Davina McCall, thanks to the legendary presenter hosting the original version of the show on Channel 4.

The menopause awareness campaigner acted as the face of Big Brother for ten years, until its move to Channel 5 in 2011, and is still synonymous with the series to this day.

The new series could air in May next year with a cast of “carefully selected housemates from all walks of life” living together in a new-look site for up to six weeks.

The show was a ratings hit from its first series in 2000, won by Craig Phillips and presented by Davina, 54. Later, BB2 winner Brian Dowling, 44, and then former model Emma Willis, 46, hosted the series.

Speaking in June, Davina seemed to rule herself of returning to the series that made her a household name - instead recommending other presenters to host the show should it return.

"Obviously Emma [Willis] and Rylan [Clark], they love that show," the mum-of-three suggested when asked who should present a Big Brother reboot.

"Rylan’s obsessive and has been since day one and Emma became the queen of Big Brother on Channel 5 so either of those – but it would be nice to see old housemates back."
