Davina McCall praises Jonathan Ross for protecting her from 'gender wage gap'

The Masked Singer's Davina McCall praised co-star and "ally of women" Jonathan Ross for trying to protect her from a possible gender wage gap.

Davina, 55, and Jonathan, 62, are judges on the popular ITV series - which premiered in 2020 - alongside Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan.

Joel Dommett is the host of the series. The previous series saw Busted's Charlie Simpson come out victorious after performing as Rhino for weeks.

While working on the series, Jonathan contacted Davina to discuss their pay as she dubbed him the "nicest man and ally of women".

"When I got my job, Jonathan called me and said: ''This is what I'm being paid'," she explained.

"'I think you and I should get paid the same amount'."

Speaking to The Sun, Davina added there wasn't a "huge" different between their salaries.

She added: "But he wanted to make sure there wasn't and I love him for that."

Along with her role as a judge on Masked Singer, she's also known for her eye-opening documentaries about menopause and the contraceptive pill.

More than 60 years after the Pill was introduced in the UK, the TV host called for a revolution and says she’s “sad and angry” about the current state of contraception in Britain.

Davina says as young women “we’re just chucked on the Pill and expected to get on with it,” leaving millions of women struggling with unpleasant side effects.

A survey of 4,000 women for her Channel 4 documentary, Davina McCall’s Pill Revolution, found 77% of those on the Pill had noticed negative side effects – with 36% experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety.

“Mood changes are widely recognised as a potential side effect of hormonal contraception, but the research is limited,” says the mum-of-three.

“We deserve better. Better research. Better knowledge. Better quality of care. More funding. Why should we compromise our quality of life to prevent pregnancy?”

She said the opinion is based on her own experience with contraception and asked whether taking the Pill at 15 years old added to her mental health struggles.

Both her daughters have also taken it, with Holly, 21, getting on “absolutely fine”, but Tilly, 19, having “a terrible time with her mental health” and wondering if it was linked to the Pill.
