Davina McCall discusses former friendship with Kylie Minogue: ‘It’s complicated’

Davina McCall has revealed she’s no longer friends with Kylie Minogue after “losing touch” with the Aussie hitmaker.

The two met in 1991 when the former Big Brother host was cast in the music video for Kylie’s track Word Is Out, a year before her presenting career took off, and then became mates.

However, McCall revealed that they’re “not friends now” and said it was “too complicated” to get into in a new interview on comedian Richard Herring’s podcast.

The TV presenter said, as reported by the Mirror: “How could I forget dancing for Kylie? It was the highlight of my career.

“I was quite good friends with Kylie, and we used to hang out. We are not friends now. That is too complicated. It is weird, you lose touch with people.

“She changed her phone number and did not give me the new one. No, that is a joke... or is it?”

In the same chat, McCall revealed how she was cast in Kylie’s video after finding a her a director.

She continued: “I was running nightclubs at the time, and she lost her director of the video and, me being the constant hustler, I said, ‘If I get you a director, can I be a dancer in your video?’”

At the time, Word Is Out hit the top 20 in the charts in the UK, reaching number 16.

After the interview emerged, McCall took to Instagram to clarify her comments and insisted that she was joking regarding Minogue not passing on her new number.

She wrote on social media: “This upsets me. I said this as a joke on a podcast. I totally love [Kylie] and she knows that.”

The Standard has contacted Kylie’s representatives for a comment.
