David Turnbull Celtic transfer theory kicked into touch as Ange Postecoglou 'do one' response predicted

Barry Ferguson reckons there is no chance Ange Postecoglou would allow David Turnbull to leave Celtic in January amid speculation over a loan exit.

The talented midfielder has struggled for regular game time this term with Aaron Mooy becoming a regular in Postecoglou's starting line-up this term, with the 23-year-old's last start coming in the shock defeat to St Mirren back in September. Despite the injury to captain Callum McGregor, the Scotland cap has become the odd man out as the Parkhead boss reshuffles his midfield with Matt O'Riley filling the void left by the skipper.

That has led to pundit and former Celtic hero Frank McAvennie suggesting Turnbull should explore a loan exit from Celtic. McAvennie reckons that he doesn't fit into the style Postecoglou wants to play claiming: “I do not think he is going to get in the team. He stops things and slows things down and I don’t think that is Ange’s way.

"He has got to play to get in the Scotland team. I think he should go on loan for six months if he wants to play.“

However, former Rangers star Ferguson batted away any talk over a move. He told The Go Radio Football Show. He said: "I disagree with him there. I don't think David Turnbull would be allowed to go, even if he went to Postecoglou and said I fancy going out for six months.

"I think he would be told to 'do one'. I think he would be told you need to get back in my starting eleven."

Fellow pundit Peter Grant agreed chiming in: "He is a talented boy. We don't know his fitness levels, so we have to be careful, but I would definitely keep him about."
