David Turnbull Celtic loan talk quashed with 'do one' reply forecast by Rangers hero Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson believes there is NO chance Ange Postecoglou would sanction a loan move for David Turnbull to depart the club in January.

The midfielder - who joined Celtic from Motherwell - has struggled for regular first team minutes this season with Aaron Mooy forcing his way into the starting side. Matt O'Riley has adopted the Callum McGregor role in the absence of the skipper through injury with Reo Hatate another certain pick for the Scottish champions as part of a settled midfield.

Hoops star Turnbull last started in the shock defeat at St Mirren back in September and was replaced just before the hour mark. His only 90 minutes this season came in the newly branded Viaplay Cup success over Ross County. In his 14 appearances to date he has scored one goal and assisted four times in all competitions.

The lack of minutes from the start has had Frank McAvennie suggesting that the 23-year-old should look to secure a loan exit away from the club. He reckons he 'slows things down' which doesn't suit the Postecoglou way of playing. He claimed: “I do not think he is going to get in the team. He will get his bit part. I like him, I think he is a wonderful talent, he just does not have the pace that other people have got. He stops things and slows things down and I don’t think that is Ange’s way.

"He has got to play to get in the Scotland team. I think he should go on loan for six months if he wants to play.“

However, Rangers hero Ferguson has dismissed any talk over a temporary departure from the Hoops with the former Light Blues captain predicting he would be told to 'do one'.

He told The Go Radio Football Show. He said: "I disagree with him [McAvennie] there. I don't think David Turnbull would be allowed to go, even if he went to Postecoglou and said I fancy going out for six months.

"I think he would be told to 'do one'. I think he would be told you need to get back in my starting eleven."

Fellow pundit Peter Grant agreed adding: "He is a talented boy. We don't know his fitness levels, so we have to be careful, but I would definitely keep him about."
