Doctor Who fans were left shocked last year when in Jodie Whittaker's final episode of the programme, she regenerated into David Tennant, who played the Doctor from 2005 to 2010, instead of Ncuti Gatwa who had been confirmed as the new Doctor. The final episode of the thirteenth series finished on a cliff hanger, with no explanation as to why it was David and not Ncuti - and many fans now can't wait for the new series to find out the reasons behind the unexpected regeneration.
David Tennant, who is back on our screens tonight (Saturday, February 25) as guest announcer on the first episode of a new series of Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway on ITV1, will be returning to Doctor Who for a short time, it's been confirmed. The 51-year-old is set to portray the doctor in three special anniversary episodes before Ncuti takes over the role.
Catherine Tate, who played Donna Noble, a previous companion to The Doctor, will also return for the special episodes this November, 2023, with Ncuti's first full episode following sometime over the festive season.

Considering how this plotline is an integral part of Donna’s character, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if it is revisited in the new episodes. Aliens ‘Beep the Meep’ and the ‘Wraith Warriors’, who up until now have only appeared in Doctor Who comics, will also be involved in the action somehow.
