David Raya’s agent has told Brentford they will get nothing for the goalkeeper if they don’t lower his price tag for a summer transfer.
Goalkeeper Raya is currently being courted by Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea, with Brentford having signed Dutch international Mark Flekken from Freiburg as his replacement.
Brentford value Raya at £40million and although Thomas Frank says the club would be willing to sell the 27-year-old, Raya’s agent is worried that risks clubs backing out of a deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Raya’s agent Jaume Munell said: “If Brentford does not lower the price tag for David Raya this summer, we’ll be ready to leave as free agent in one year.”
That eventuality could cause significant problems for Brentford.
Flekken may feel aggrieved having signed on the pretence that he would replace Raya as No1, but the Bees would also miss out on valuable transfer funds from selling Raya this summer.
Only David de Gea, Alisson, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale kept more Premier League clean sheets this season than Raya’s 12. The Spanish international signed for Brentford for £3m from Blackburn in July 2019.
