David Moyes 'to be sacked' if West Ham lose crunch clash to Everton on Saturday

West Ham's game against Everton on Saturday could be David Moyes' last at the helm if the Hammers lose to their manager's former club.

The Hammers finished seventh in the Premier League last season but have just 15 points this term and are at serious risk of relegation. Defeat at Wolves last weekend saw Moyes' men drop into the bottom three, with Everton - who lost at home to Southampton at the same time - one of the only two teams below them in the table.

Moyes first joined West Ham on a short-term deal midway through the 2017-18 season, helping save the team from relegation. He returned in December 2019 after Manuel Pellegrini's dismissal, and led the Hammers to sixth and seventh place finishes in his two full seasons in charge.

After losing their first three matches of the Premier League season, West Ham briefly climbed as high as 10th. However, a run of just one point from the last seven games has seen them drop into the relegation places and leave Moyes in trouble.

According to The Guardian, West Ham are contemplating replacing the former Manchester United and Everton manager, and could pull the trigger if they lose at home on Saturday. Another former Everton boss, Rafa Benitez, is reportedly among those considered as a potential replacement.

West Ham's league form is in stark contrast to their results in Europe. The Hammers completed doubles over FCSB, Silkeborg and Anderlecht to become the first team to record maximum points in a Europa Conference League group, but the consistency hasn't been replicated at home.

"We need the supporters to stick with us," Moyes said after the Wolves defeat, per whufc.com. Daniel Podence scored the only goal of the game at Molineux to extend the Hammers' winless league run to seven games, and they have drawn a blank in four of those fixtures.

"I know they have been used to a lot better over the last years," the manager continued. "If ever we need them it is now. We need all the supporters to stand up and be counted and help us now."

Things aren't likely to get any easier for West Ham after the visit of Everton. The following three games see them take on Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham, while there is also a potential banana skin against Derby County in the FA Cup in the middle of that run.

They have also been frustrated in the transfer market, with young defender Luizao the only new addition. Efforts have been made to add more firepower, with Terem Moffi of Lorient among those linked, with the Hammers scoring just 15 times in 18 league games.

"We have not been able to turn our good play [into goals]," Moyes admitted after the latest defeat. "We have not been able [to finish our chances].

"The players from our point of view have been great. But because of the standards we have set, the expectations we have set, it does not feel good."
