David Moyes sweating over Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice availability for Sevilla clash in Europa League

David Moyes was unable to say whether star men Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice will be fit to face Sevilla on Thursday following illness and injury at Liverpool.

Rice was not included in the squad at Liverpool having fallen unwell on Thursday while Bowen had to be helped down the Anfield tunnel after sustaining a second half injury.

The winger, who has been in sensational form this season and is in contention for a first England call-up this month, will undergo a scan ahead of Thursday.

West Ham face a trip to Sevilla for the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie in the coming days, their biggest game of the season.

However, the West Ham manager was unable to give clear updates on both players following the narrow defeat at Liverpool.

“They seem to think that the tackle from [Andy] Robertson, around his heel area,” said Moyes.

“Not sure where but we will get him scanned. Jarrod has been exceptional for us so the last thing we want is for him to be injured.

“It could be nothing, but in the same breath I didn’t like the way he wasn’t able to put his weight through his foot so that worries me.

“He has been playing really well for us so it would be a blow if we go into the Sevilla game without him.

“Declan had illness that came on on Thursday and through Friday. We are hoping it will not be too bad but I can’t tell at the minute.”

West Ham wasted a number of chances to come away with at least a point from Anfield, with Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio all wasting good chances.

“They started very well but we grew into it,” said Moyes. “We had a great chance when Pablo [Fornals] was through but he didn’t finish. And late on if any team was going to get a goal it was us.

“We need to be clinical, the quality of the last finish and cross which has been lacking.

“I thought Michail Antonio was exceptional today but we are still needing the little bit of class at the end that we have lacked in recent weeks.”
