David Moyes was sent-off in the latter stages of West Ham United's defeat to Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final.
With the Hammers trailing 1-0, Moyes tried to speed up the ball returning to play but emotions boiled over and the Scot was giving his marching orders. He headed down the tunnel with 12 minutes remaining.
The Scot would later apologise for the incident, saying: "I kicked a ball back at a ball boy so I apologise for that. He threw the ball very softly at me."
The Hammers were aiming to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit as they headed to Germany, but their task was made even harder when Aaron Cresswell was sent off after 19 minutes following a VAR check.
Santos Borre gave the Bundesliga outfit the lead midway through the first-half.
West Ham tried in vain to find an equaliser as they sought to get themselves back into the tie but with time running out frustration was building.
Before the clash in Germany Moyes said: "There are a lot of nice things said about our league position, but I'm still saying I've got to find a way of driving those players onto another level and making sure we're in a final. If I don't do that, we've got to make sure we're fifth or sixth in the league so we can go through this process again. This is West Ham trying to grow.
"Our league games have just slid away a little bit, but it's quite difficult to concentrate on the Thursday game and Sunday game and get them correct, so let's hope we can do something tomorrow night.
"The climb over the two years has probably been faster and sometimes you have to come down a little bit to go again. Hopefully, we continue to build."
