David Moyes rues missed opportunity with West Ham unable to find late Burnley winner

David Moyes was left frustrated after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at the London Stadium.

Tomas Soucek cancelled out Wout Weghorst’s header with 15 minutes remaining, but Nick Pope then kept the Hammers at bay late on as he produced brilliant saves to deny Issa Diop and Michail Antonio.

With Tottenham and Arsenal both losing on Saturday the chance was there for West Ham to really close the gap, but they instead sit five points behind Spurs having played a game more.

Their best chance of Champions League football next season looks to be lifting the Europa League trophy.

“It is a game where we missed an opportunity, we had an opportunity to challenge the teams above us but we have missed it,” Moyes said.

“It was a terrible injury to Ashley Westwood, which derailed the speed of the game for a while. We lost concentration during that period, but that was our fault and nobody else’s.

“We were playing quite well and knocking on the door at that time but went on to concede the goal. We had a great chance to win the game with the amount of chances and we probably should have.

“We have been doing OK up till now. We will keep ploughing on and keep picking up results. [Nick Pope] had a couple of really good saves but hopefully we will score them in the next games.
