David Moyes' plan for Gianluca Scamacca in the Premier League after first West Ham goal

David Moyes has called for summer signing Gianluca Scamacca to be given more time to adapt to the Premier League after his £30.5million move from Sassuolo.

The Italian has featured in both of West Ham’s Premier League fixtures so far but is yet to make his first league start after coming off the bench against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest respectively. Moyes’ side got off to a disappointing start, losing both fixtures without scoring a goal.

Scamacca, who scored 16 times in 36 Serie A appearances last season, netted his first West Ham goal on Thursday night, scoring the Irons opener in a 3-1 win against Viborg in the Europa Conference League. Ahead of this weekend’s clash against Brighton in the Premier League, Moyes says he plans to give the Italian more time to adjust to England’s top-flight.

“I think in time he will [have an impact]. I think if we are going to judge him very quickly then I don’t think that’s fair,” said Moyes.

“We’ll be trying to bring him into the Premier League gradually and we will look to do that as we go along. He’ll get to know us better, we’ll get to know him. But we’ve seen enough from him already to suggest that he’s got a lot going for him and hopefully that will help us.”

West Ham welcome Brighton to the London Stadium on Sunday with kick-off at 2pm.
