West Ham boss David Moyes highlighted how he tried to sign Liverpool's latest star in the January transfer window before the Reds intervened.

"I spoke with Luis Diaz on the phone and we were quite far down the line to sign him from Porto," said Moyes.

“My understanding is Liverpool were going to come in for him in the summer, and I was going to try and get him in January.

“I don't know if us trying to get him in January affected Liverpool's decision but he's a really good player.”

What?

Philippe Coutinho is now plying his trade back in the Premier League, but for Aston Villa as he looks to rediscover his best form under ex-teammate Steven Gerrard.

The Brazilian left Liverpool in 2018 for Barcelona, but the attacker faced a nightmare spell in La Liga.

Coutinho said of his Liverpool exit in 2018: “No. At certain times we have to make decisions, and one of my big dreams was to play for Barcelona, and at that moment I decided to make that decision, but always with great affection, respect and gratitude for Liverpool and for the friendships over the years I’ve been in the club."

“But at that moment I had a decision to make and I don’t regret it.”
