David Moyes makes Eintracht Frankfurt point as West Ham prepare for AZ Alkmaar semi-final test

David Moyes says West Ham can use the experience from last season to drive them on to success in the Europa Conference League.

The Hammers face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the semi-finals of the competition, with West Ham at home in the first leg tonight (Thursday) as they look to reach the final in Prague on June 7.

Last season, West Ham fell at the semi-final stage of the Europa League, losing out to Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 on aggregate as they missed out on a place in the final.

Moyes has already said that reaching the Europa Conference League final could be his biggest achievement as a manager, with the Scot saying it is exciting for West Ham to be one step away from a European final.

And he says they can use the hurt of what happened last season to spur them on in the semi-final clash with Alkmaar.

"Of course, we want to go one, two steps further but we know the task at hand," he said. "It's going to be a difficult fixture, you don’t get to a semi-final if you're a bad team so we know we're going to be in for a tough game over the two legs but we feel ready, full of confidence going into the game.

"Yeah we can learn [from the semi-final defeat to Frankfurt] but it's exciting at the same time. That excitement is still there. You're in a European semi-final and you're so close to achieving something you want to achieve for the whole club.

"Yes we can learn a lot from all the knock-out games we’ve had and we've done well in the knockout games this year to get to the stage we have. It's about doing the same things. We can use it, we've been here last year and this year we want to go one step further and not lose in the semi-finals."
