David Moyes makes Angelo Ogbonna contract admission ahead of potential free transfer

David Moyes has said talks have not started over a new contract for Angelo Ogbonna with his deal expiring at the end of the season.

Ogbonna missed the majority of last season after suffering an ACL injury last November, returning to West Ham United this season. The Italian has gone to make seven Premier League appearances this season after spending the first half of the campaign on the bench.

The former Juventus defender is one of four Hammers out of contract at the London Stadium but out of Lukasz Fabianski, Manuel Laninzi and Vladimir Coufal, Ogbonna is the only one without an extension clause.

Moyes praised Ogbonna for returning to full fitness following a serious injury in his early 30s but revealed there have been no talks about extending the defender's stay in east London.

"We've not gone into the new contracts yet. It's good to see Angelo back playing well. Coming back from a cruciate at 34 and getting back into form, it's taken him a while. We hoped to get him back at the start of the season. But it's taken a bit longer and he's had to wait a bit to get an opening.

"He probably needed the European games, the pre-season and, in truth, the winter break games if I'm being honest. I'm pleased he's done a really good job, he's been a really good servant, but the truth is we've not got round to discussing any contracts at the moment."
