David Moyes lifts lid on conversations with David Sullivan on his West Ham future

West Ham United manager David Moyes has been in regular contact with the Hammers’ joint-chairman and co-owner David Sullivan during the break for the 2022 World Cup.

Despite spending around £160m on transfer fees during the summer window on eight new players, the Hammers currently find themselves sat 16th in the Premier League table after their opening 15 league games, just a point clear of the relegation zone.

A number of supporters have been frustrated by the form on the pitch, building some pressure on Moyes’ future.

Speaking out on his future, Moyes has said that he has the full backing of the club, but knows that regardless of what support he receives, he knows he and his side must perform on the pitch in order to warrant that backing.

“All through this month we’ve been speaking quite regularly, every two or three days,” said Moyes. “They are [fully behind me], the club are very good.

“Our owners are not daft, we know that he can still be fully behind you but you know you need to win your games, show what you can do.

“They’ve given me lots of backing and support with the money, so I think it’s right and to be fair, we’ve delivered pretty well in the last few years as well.”

Following a 38-day break from competitive action, West Ham will return to the Premier League on Boxing Day, with a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on the agenda.

Going into that match, Moyes will be aiming to secure an away league win against the old ‘top four’ (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United) for the first time in 71 attempts.
