David Moyes says West Ham’s preseason form so far shows they are in need of reinforcements “very quickly” after they were beaten 3-1 by Rangers last night.

Moyes named close to his best XI for the fixture at Ibrox but saw his side well-beaten by the Europa League runners-up. It comes after a similarly strong side was held to a 1-1 draw by Championship outfit Reading last weekend.

The Hammers have made three major signings so far this summer, bringing in centre-back Nayef Aguerd, midfielder Flynn Downes and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who was at the London Stadium last term but has made his loan move from PSG permanent.

However, they are yet to get a much-touted move for a striker over the line, with talks dragging on over Chelsea forward Armando Broja, while the Irons are also pushing to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.

“We have bids in for players and we’re trying to get them in,” Moyes said. “Getting them in at the moment is seeming quite difficult but by watching what I’ve seen in the opening games we need to add very quickly to the squad of players we’ve got.

“I hope [losing] comes as a good thing having a wake-up call, but I thought it was a good pre-season last year when we won all the games.

“You want to win the games and you want to go in [to the season] in good form. We certainly need to make a lot of changes and do something different, that’s for sure.”
