West Ham are considering SACKING David Moyes despite leading them to the Europa Conference League final and a chance of the club’s first major trophy in 43 years.
The 60-year-old has emerged as the hot favourite to become the next manager of Celtic if Ange Postecoglou takes over Tottenham Hotspur after the Scottish Cup final. Moyes himself will have his final game of the season when the Londoners take on Fiorentina in Prague in the final of UEFA’s third tier competition.
But The Guardian say that “West Ham are giving fresh consideration to parting company with David Moyes” and adding that "it is understood confidence around Moyes staying has waned since the Premier League season ended”. Ex Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter and Paulo Fonseca have all been named as potential replacements. West Ham finished 14th in the English Premier League table and six points clear of the relegation zone as Moyes juggled domestic and European football.
The decision at the London Stadium could come down to the outcome on Wednesday night but the speculation comes at a time when he has become the outright favourite to succeed Postecoglou at Parkhead. The bookies make him favourite with the former Celtic defender frequently linked with the Celtic job over the years. And prior to a friendly at Parkhead last season it was something he refused to rule out.
He said at the time: “To manage Celtic you need to be special and realise the size of club it is. I think there will be a time when I choose to come back. It’s always difficult in a city like Glasgow. I’ve managed in Liverpool, Manchester, and it’s tough. Half the city dislikes you and sometimes all the city dislikes you, depending on how you’ve done. Glasgow is my home city, I always want to be able to come back and mix with all the supporters. So that sometimes can make the job difficult, but it wouldn’t stop me from doing it if I thought it was the right thing.”
