David Moyes drops West Ham selection hint ahead of FCSB Europa Conference League clash

David Moyes has said it's unlikely Gianluca Scamacca will start for West Ham against FCSB on Thursday night but could look to use Flynn Downes from the off.

Moyes has had to contend with a number of first team players out during the start of the season with various injuries, including summer signing Nayef Aguerd missing the opening months of the season having undergone ankle surgery.

Downes, who joined from Swansea City in the summer, has made three appearances off the bench and could get his first start after Moyes revealed on Wednesday that he has recovered from a poisoned toe.

"He missed out with a poisoned toe in Viborg," said Moyes. "I'm looking at Flynn with a chance thinking this could be an opportunity to learn a game and see how he does and give him a start so we'll look at that closely. We've not completely got everything set but he's certainly in my thoughts."

Scamacca, who scored in both legs of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying games against Viborg, has not played since the 1-0 win over Aston Villa and subsequently missed the next two games due to illness.

And Moyes added that this game could be a bit too early for the Italian striker to start.

"He [Scamacca] only really started training so I'm going to work towards him getting back if we can," said the Scot. "We hope to get him back but he's really not been well for ten days so if he's fully fit I'd be very surprised but certainly he trained and he's getting closer to fitness."
