David Moyes details Nayef Aguerd's injury duration after £30m signing's ankle surgery

After just one month on from completing a dream move to the Premier League, West Ham’s £30million signing Nayef Aguerd is going to have to wait a while longer before he can feature in England’s top-flight.

The Moroccan international, who joined the Hammers from Rennes in late June, suffered an ankle injury in a pre-season friendly against Rangers. Although there was no break in the ankle, Aguerd had to undergo surgery and will spend some time at Rush Green to continue his rehabilitation.

Therefore, the centre-back will not be available for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City at the London Stadium, and it could be a while until the 26-year-old makes his debut, possibly months, with David Moyes expecting him to be back ahead of the World Cup in November.

“That is a huge blow to us. We signed a centre-back and he gets injured in the first or second game. He has had an operation and we think he will probably be back in 10 weeks,” Moyes told football.london.

If it is 10 weeks, Aguerd could be back in time for West Ham’s trips to Liverpool and Manchester United in late October. But the Moroccan will miss the Hammers play-off round tie and a chunk of the group stage of the Europa Conference League, as well as Premier League fixtures against London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea.
