David Moyes delivers Mikel Arteta Arsenal verdict amid 'no respect' and Pep Guardiola claim

Mikel Arteta certainly hasn't been short of plaudits this season. Whether it's from pundits or fellow Premier League managers, the Arsenal boss has been drowning in praise for leading his side to the top of the table.

Thomas Frank and Jurgen Klopp have been among those to sing the praises of Arteta in recent weeks. Ahead of the thrilling clash between Arsenal and Liverpool, Klopp said: "All my respect, wow! Really good job from Mikel. When you need time, nobody wants to give you it. I have to say, a lot of respect."

It's the type of praise that Arteta didn't get quite so regularly in his previous few seasons at the Gunners, where he led Arsenal to consecutive eighth-placed finishes, before finishing fifth last term. However, even when they were underachieving in terms of league position, West Ham United boss David Moyes could see Arteta creating a good team.

Not many Premier League managers know Arteta better that Moyes as the Spaniard played over 200 times under the Scotsman at Everton. The apprentice has got the better of the master in most of their meetings in the dugout, with Arteta winning four of the five clashes he's had against Moyes' side.

The 59-year-old is not surprised by the way the Gunners have played this season, claiming that they've been a good team 'for a while'. Moyes says that nobody has given Arteta the credit he has deserved during his time at the Gunners.

"There were a lot of people always critical of Arsenal over the last few years," Moyes told talkSPORT. "I think they've been a really good team for a while when nobody was giving them respect.

"They brought in [Martin] Odegaard who has made a real difference, Mikel had an idea of what he thinks it should look like and after working with Pep [Guardiola] for a few years and giving him that guidance in how to prepare a good team, I just felt nobody was giving Mikel any credit whatsoever.

"He's a really diligent boy, young manager, learning his way, he'll make a few mistakes as he goes along, like I did, like everybody else does, but he hasn't half put together a really good side and sometimes you need good fortune to have good young players at your club when you arrive and I think Arsenal had and have good young players in their system."
