David Moyes confirms Lucas Paqueta move is close after West Ham medical takes place

West Ham boss David Moyes has confirmed that Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta has undergone a medical ahead of his club record move to the London Stadium.

The Brazilian international is set to become Moyes’ eighth signing of the summer in a deal that could eventually rise to €60million including add-ons.

“I understand he’s had a medical today, I’ve not ben able to confirm yet if it’s all good or all bad,” Moyes said, following Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa. “I’m obviously really hoping it comes off because I think he’s an excellent player, he can add something for us.

“He’s another exciting player for us. We’ve brought in several players and a lot of them are full internationals.

“It’s been a difficult window but trying to add something at a level to keep us up there is what we’ve tried to do. I’m grateful to the board and the club for trying to get the best we can.”

Pablo Fornals’ deflected strike proved the difference at Villa Park as the Hammers picked up a much needed first Premier League victory of the season after starting the campaign with a hat-trick of defeats.

The home side were on top in the first-half before Moyes ditched his back-three formation at half-time with the introduction of Said Benrahma and the Scot admitted he had got his tactical selection wrong.

“I made that decision because I thought it would give us a chance of playing in a way that would cause Villa problems but it was the exact opposite,” he added. “Villa thrived in it. The good thing about it is we were incredibly resilient in the first-half and didn’t concede.

“We gave ourselves a chance coming in at 0-0 and we didn’t buckle in the first-half.”
