David Moyes has lamented a lack of quality from his West Ham side following defeat in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Hammers trailed after just 48 seconds as some slack defending allowed Ansgar Knauff to head home at the back post.
West Ham responded well and equalised through Michail Antonio but fell behind again early in the second half as Daichi Kamara tapped home after Alphonse Areola had saved from Djibril Sow.
Jarrod Bowen saw an effort nudged onto the post and hit the bar with a stunning overhead kick in injury time - but West Ham were wasteful on the ball at times and were not at their best.
“We will need to show more quality than we did tonight [next week],” said Moyes.
“We didn’t show enough quality, especially in the final third when we had moments to do so.
“We turned off a couple of times from the goal.
“I don’t know if it is the level of the game going up and we don’t have the quality required to be at this level at times.
“We have at times but tonight I didn’t think we showed that. We needed to play better and we weren’t able to do so.”
Moyes added: “We didn’t start the first half well, nor the second.
“It was a terrible start for us but after that we grew back into the game and deservedly got the goal.”
