David Moyes aiming to build on recent form as West Ham travel to St James' Park

David Moyes is aiming to use West Ham's 2-0 victory over Everton as a platform to build from when his side travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Hammers climbed out of the bottom three with a crucial win over fellow relegation rivals Everton in their previous Premier League outing.

West Ham have looked a shadow of the side that reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals last term. They had gone seven league games without a win prior to their triumph over the Toffees - a run which included six defeats.

However, the Hammers have now won three of their last four games in all competitions, and Moyes is optimistic that his side are heading in the right direction.

"The win against Derby was a boost. The clean sheet was good. We got a great win against Everton, we want to build on it," Moyes said in his pre-match press conference.

"We have a good side but we've not shown it as much as we should have done. It's getting closer to the business end of the season and the last few games has given us something to talk about.

"Winning is always the key. We would like performances to improve but now, at the moment, we have to pick up points. Hopefully we're moving in the right direction."

Newcastle welcome West Ham to Tyneside fresh off the back of booking a place in their first League Cup final in 47 years. They triumphed 2-1 against Southampton in the second leg, and prevailed 3-1 over both legs on aggregate.

Eddie Howe's men are also unbeaten in 15 in the Premier League and head into the latest round of fixtures in third place.
