David Martindale admits Livingston season ticket 'envy' as boss reveals less than 100 have been sold

Livingston boss David Martindale admits he's "envious" of their Premiership rivals who are already into the thousands for season ticket sales - after ringing reception to be told his club are still in double figures for the week.

The Lions manager admitted he will need to be "cute and creative" with recruitment this summer with the club's balance sheets showing losses for last year and projecting more for 2023. He also discussed season ticket sales, admitting the club can't compare to the likes of Aberdeen and Dundee United who are already into the thousands for season ticket sales. Livingston have the lowest average attendance in the Premiership this season with bottom six rivals like St Johnstone, Motherwell and Kilmarnock all regularly attracting larger home crowds.

Champions Celtic and rivals Rangers operate waiting lists and Martindale admitted: “I need to be careful in terms of the budget, we lost a lot of money last year and have projected losses this year. I’ll have to be very cute and creative in terms of how I go about my business.

“I’m sitting on social media on Tuesday and Dundee United are posting, ‘4,200 season tickets sold so far’, incredible - fantastic for them. Aberdeen were sitting around 6,000 and I’m phoning reception and asking, ‘what we sold this week?’, and we’re under 100. You know what? It puts into perspective the challenge that lies ahead for us collectively and as individuals. But it does not mean I’m not sitting there sometimes a wee bit envious of these other clubs.”

Martindale later insisted on social media the club have "no worries" about how season ticket sales are going for next season. His side start the post-split fixtures with two away games against Ross County and Kilmarnock before back-to-back home clashes with Dundee United and Motherwell. Currently 15 points ahead of bottom spot, they are virtually safe from relegation but will be keen to finish the season strong.
